Nobel Peace Prize to Nadia Murad and Denis Mukwege

Nadia Murad and Denis Mukwege Awarded Nobel Peace Prize

The two jointly won the Nobel Peace Prize 2018 “for their efforts to end the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war and armed conflict.”

When Nadia Murad was 21, she was sold as a sex slave to IS. In her book The Last Girl, Murad describes her imprisonment and her critical fight against the Islamic State.

Sara Nyström, her publisher at Albert Bonniers Förlag for the Swedish edition of her book, says:

I’m so touched and incredibly happy that this truly important book will see wider distribution. She’s described for us how women around the world are exposed to violence and have paid a horribly high price. That she’s won the Nobel Peace Prize is among the greatest things that’s happened in a long time.

You can read an interview with Nadia Murad at Selma Stories (in Swedish).

Nadia Murad’s book is published in Norway by Cappelen Damm, who also publishes Berthil Åkerlund’s biography of fellow prizewinner Denis Mukwege: Denis Mukwege – Lege på liv og død.
