Winners of the Swedish Grand Journalism Prize

Winners of the Swedish Grand Prize for Journalism 2011 were announced at a gala ceremony yesterday. The awards are the premier prize for journalism in Sweden. For the ceremony, 200 of the country’s leading media personalities from newspapers, magazines, TV, radio and the web gathered at Operan’s Rotunda in Stockholm, and the ceremony was broadcast live on most of the big media websites in Sweden.

The program host was Karin af Klintberg, TV producer and two-time winner of the Swedish Grand Journalism Prize. One of the highlights of the ceremony was when af Klintberg interviewed Hanne Skartveit, politics editor at the Norwegian daily Verdens Gang, who talked about the drama and journalism during the summer terror attack in Oslo that she witnessed first hand.

The prize winners in the different categories are:

Storyteller of the Year

Erik Hedtjärn and Amanda Glans production company Tredje Statsmakten for radio channel P1, Swedish Radio, “Partiledaren – en dokumentär om Juholts väg till makten” (Party Leader – a documentary on Juholt’s road to power) – the jury wrote: “For the unique portrait of [Social Democrat party leader] Håkan Juholt and his road to power, painted with journalistic intuition and curiosity.”

Innovator of the Year

Johanna Koljonen and Sofia Mirjamsdotter #prataomdet (talk about it) Twitter campaign – the jury wrote: “For making the private public and getting a whole world to talk about it.”

Investigator of the Year

Malin Olofsson and Daniel Öhman Ekot, Swedish Radio, Radio series och book Matens Pris – the jury wrote: “For having revealed the unreasonably high price animals, humans and the environment must pay for our cheap food.”

Lukas Bonniers Grand Journalism Prize

Cecilia Uddén, foreign correspondent, Swedish Radio – the jury wrote: “Because with her knowledge and strong presence at the heart of global politics, she gives us the big picture with the help of stories in miniature.”
