Stella Comes Out

On March 14, Norway’s Bonnier Media launched women’s magazine Stella. Four days before the launch, the magazine was presented to 150 customers and partners at the Continental in Oslo. The event as well as the ad space in the first issue were fully booked – the ad department was forced to turn down advertisers several days before the ad deadline.

“The launch couldn’t have gone better,” says Lene Vintervoll, editor-in-chief for Stella.

Many of the articles in the first issue were taken up and written about by other media, including daily newspapers Verdens Gang and Dagbladet. Primarily is was an interview with Norwegian handball star Mia Hundvin (who graced the cover of the first issue of Stella) who caused an uproar and landed Vintervoll on Norway’s big morning magazine TV program – read more here (in Norwegian).

“It will be an exciting spring and summer on the Norwegian women’s magazine market,” says Gry Bjørhovde, publishing director at Bonnier Media. “We’re releasing the food title Tara Smak and our competitors Egmont and Aller will also be launching new titles, so the competition for existing and new readers will be tougher than ever. But Stella has gotten a great start, and since we at Bonnier Media have, time after time, proven that we are good at starting a new concept and filling a niche where it exists, we believe we’ll succeed.”
