Bonnier Award to Äripäev and Postimees Reporters
Investigation on Azerbaijani money laundering through Danske Bank wins investigative reporting prize in Estonia.
Earlier today, reporters Piret Reiljan, Marge Väikenurm from Äripäev and Joosep Värk, Risto Berendson of Postimees were announced winners of the Bonnier Award for investigative reporting in Estonia at a ceremony at the Swedish Embassy in Tallinn. The two teams, who worked together with Danish newspaper Berlinske and the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project in an investigation into money laundering of Azerbaijani funds via Danske Bank in Estonia.
The two other finalists were Kristjan Pihl of Estonian Public Broadcasting (ERR) for a series about fake invoices to public the Estonian Health Insurance Fund made by different companies; and Mikk Salu of news daily Eesti Ekspress for a series about the deputy mayor of Tallinn and corruption in the capital garbage business.
The prize, established and funded by Bonnier since 1996, is given out annually.
