Mittmedia and Norwegian Amedia acquire Hall Media

Mittmedia has today, together with Norwegian Amedia, acquired the Hall Media newspaper group. After the transaction, Mittmedia will own 51% of Hall Media and Amedia 49%. Are Stokstad, CEO of Amedia, has been appointed new Chairman of the Board.

Hall Media is a local newspaper group based in Jönköping, Sweden, that owns ten subscribed morning newspaper titles, including Jönköpings-Posten, Falköpings Tidning and Smålands Dagblad, as well as free newspapers and news sites in the Småland and Västra Götaland regions.

Through the acquisition and coordination of Hall Media, Mittmedia further strengthens its position in the local news market.

We feel confident that we have a strategy that works and for that reason it is given to us to actively participate in the ongoing structuring of the Swedish local newspaper market ”says Are Stokstad, CEO Amedia.

The purpose of the deal is for Hall Media’s titles to be able to further focus on local journalism and thus get closer to their readers. It is of great importance that the newspapers maintain their uniqueness and their individual profiles.

I am convinced that, with our publicistic knowledge, strategy and business acumen, we can provide the Hall Media titles with even more power to focus on their local areas and grow stronger and more profitable,” says Mikael Nestius, Business Manager Mittmedia.

Hall Media’s titles reach over 250,000 readers in total and currently have about 70,000 paying subscribers, of which approximately 17,000 are digital subscribers.

With the acquisition of Hall Media, Mittmedia continues to strengthen its local strategy, which aims to drive digital growth and create the conditions for qualitative and independent local journalism. The titles in Hall Media will retain their current political names. The transaction requires approval from the Swedish Competition Authority.
