Smaller carbon footprint for Adlibris
Adlibris reduced its climate impact by 14 percent during 2022, well on its way towards the goal of halving its carbon footprint by 2030.
The reduction is a result of lower emissions from transport and slightly lower demand for books purchased from the U.S., among other reasons.
“We have made several changes connected to shipping, both from suppliers in to our warehouse and out to customers. We work really hard on which delivery options we choose to highlight at the checkout, and the changes we have made during 2022 have had an impact,” says Linnéa Hård af Segerstad, sustainability manager at Adlibris.
In spring 2023, Adlibris began to communicate to consumers which delivery options are fossil free, as defined by the commerce organization Swedish Trade, to help guide the consumer to make an active and sustainable choice.
Adlibris’ climate impact from transport in 2022 was reduced by 23 percent, thanks in part to lower interest in books purchased from the U.S. resulting in less air freight, as well as transport companies reducing their emissions in general. There was even somewhat of a reduction in impact from digital marketing. Today, digital advertising offers a negative climate impact, since changing to renewable electrictity for servers is not yet complete with suppliers.
Buying a book from Adlibris generates on average a carbon footprint of 1.37 kg of CO2e emissions. The biggest climate impact is from the actual production of books, followed by transport from suppliers to Adlibris warehouses.
