Swedish Grand Journalism Prize Winners

Some 200 of Sweden’s leading media personalities from newspapers, magazines, TV, radio and the web gathered at Operaterrassen in Stockholm for the Swedish Grand Journalism Prize awards ceremony and dinner. The ceremony was broadcast live via web TV on all of Sweden’s leading media sites.

The program leader was journalist Robert Aschberg, himself a previous winner of the Swedish Grand Journalism Prize. During the ceremony, he interviewed Russian-American journalist Masha Gessen, author of the noted book The Man Without a Face, about Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

Prizewinners in the four categories were:

Storyteller of the Year

Carina Bergfeldt, Aftonbladet
“Dagen vi aldrig glömmer. Massakern på Utøya” (The Day We Will Never Forget. Massacre at Utøya)
The jury wrote: “From a thousand loose threads, she has woven a tight and clear narrative that grips you and doesn’t let go.”

Innovator of the Year

Olle Zachrison, Carolina Neurath, Jan Almgren, Mark Malmström, Peter Grensund and Ola Henriksson, Svenska Dagbladet
Räntekartan (the interest rate map)
The jury wrote: “With help from tens of thousands of readers, they have further developed consumer journalism. The reporting has exposed injustices and given readers a chance to have influence.”

Investigation of the Year

Bo Göran Bodin and Daniel Öhman, Ekot, Swedish Radio
Saudiaffären (The Saudi Affair)
“For revealing how those in power used shady methods to try and hide a weapons deal that they didn’t want anyone to see.”

Lukas Bonniers Stora Journalistpris

Inger Atterstam, medical reporter, Svenska Dagbladet
“Because she never sweetens the medicine.”


 The Swedish Grand Journalism Prize was founded by Bonnier in 1966 to promote strong efforts in journalism. It is Sweden’s most prestigious journalism award. The prize money is SEK 100,000 (approximately USD 15,000) per category.
