Veckans Affärer To Be First Climate-Assured Magazine

Newsweekly Veckans Affärer is the first magazine to achieve a “climate assured” status in Sweden. In order to get it, first a company must calculate the environmental impact of its entire operations related to production of the magazine and develop a plan for decreasing emissions. The emission must then be offset under a special program and the results communicated in order to further spread the effects of the initiative. Veckans Affärer has successfully gone through the steps and gotten the climate-assured status through Swedish company Tricorona, which works with certified emission reductions according to the Kyoto Protocol. 

“We hope that our initiative inspires other to do the same,” says Anna Körnung, editor-in-chief for Veckans Affärer. “Much of the future responsibility for the climate lies with companies, not the least of which are the media, which can have a powerful effect.”

“For many years we’ve focused on minimizing our impact on the environment, and we increased our engagement in climate issues with the ‘Green Capitalist of the Year’ event a couple of years ago,” says Martin Mellgren, marketing manager for Veckans Affärer. “We want to take responsibility in a more concrete way when it comes to environmental impact and the result is this ambitious project.
